I strongly believe that being charitable is an intrinsic and inbuilt part of human nature (or at least that it is for 99.9% of us). This is basically because everyone I know would do a certain amount to help out other people who are in a worse situation than themselves. Of course, some individuals are bound to do more than others, but none of my friends or family would ever turn their back on someone in their hour of need.

Although it can sometimes seem as if no-one gives a damn, I know deep down inside that most people do! If fact, some people may not even realise how much they actually care…. And that is because there are far more ways of being charitable than the majority of us even realise!

We all know about the ‘normal'ways of helping other people, but we can also carry out ‘good deeds'on several different levels. For example; anyone taking primary school teaching courses is doing their bit for our education system and people who run a youth club are keeping our ‘bored'teenagers on the straight and narrow. It depends on how you look at it all I suppose… Personally I can see all manner of ways to be ‘charitable’; and some of these are far less obvious than others.

There will always be the odd exception, but I am positive that most people in the world will do their best to improve things if they are given half a chance. Of course, I might be completely wrong about all of this…. However, before you go shooting me down in flames please just do me one favour – Stop and think about all of the people that you know and what they are doing with their lives… And can you really imagine any of them turning away if they heard someone asking for help?

Somalia has been without an effective central government since the civil war of 1991. The current generation of young people has therefore known violence and hardship for most of their lives. Many do not attend school, are illiterate and have little hope for the future. Displacement is common, as is the likelihood of bearing witness to, or even participating in, violence.

Despite these overwhelming odds, the same young people often demonstrate enormous resilience. With adequate support, guidance and skills, they can provide the foundation for building peace in this troubled country and help rebuild communities. Their participation in decision-making processes which concern them can empower them to be positive agents of change in their society.

This is not just a dream. Somali youth are fast becoming leaders in their devastated society, using youth groups to give voice to the concerns of their generation. More than 200 youth groups have been formed by young people in Somalia over the last decade and, in many respects, these groups are the same as others around the world. There are places where youth get together to play sports, make music or just simply hang out with friends. However, they are unique in their focus on community development. Youth from these groups promote awareness about issues such as female genital mutilation, disarmament and HIV/AIDS. The youth in Somalia are moving forward and becoming leaders in one of the most challenging environments in the world.

It has been difficult, however, for these young people to have their voices heard in the process, or to acquire the information and skills to be able to contribute meaningfully to peace building. A new project organized by UNICEF and CRD (Center for Research and Dialogue) aims to correct this by helping them develop as leaders. Before you know it, they will be needing franking machines for business to assist them in their new role in Somalian society.

Millions of people the world over will during the course of their lives find themselves changed for the better thanks to the work of a local, national or international charity. It could be that they themselves have fallen on hard times and been helped out or perhaps they have chosen to work as a volunteer to witness first-hand the incredible difference such groups can make. Needless to say, the way in which a charity is able to touch the lives of those it may come into contact with is the sole means by which its future can be assured, which is why more and more are considering the idea of including a beloved charity in their final Will.

Leaving a charitable donation in a Will is fast becoming one of the most common and popular ways be which to show appreciation and care for the future of the charity as a whole. In fact, without the ongoing gifts offered to charities through Wills across the country today, hundreds of key charities would have been wiped off the face of the Earth. By considering the inclusion of a charity in a Will with plenty of forethought, it is perfectly possible to ensure a valuable gesture is made while at the same time looking after the interests of family, friends and all others traditionally included in an final Will and Testament.

An individual charity and use for the money can be named directly in the will, or the money can be left to an authority to decide its most valuable use. As such, if providing new changing room benches for a local school has long been a desire in mind, it is perfectly possible to be exactly this specific in order to earmark the money for a particular use. What’s more, charitable donations can also help to reduce the level of inheritance tax payable on the estate as a whole, given the way in which the sum is deducted before tax is applied.

A dream gives us a focus. It is something that we do and enjoy and often, excel at. Without a dream, we are just empty shells floating through time. Living such a life is akin to receiving a brain injury compensation – a classic case of bolting the stables after the horse has run off. A dream motivates us to live enthusiastically and inspires us. While following your dream, keep in mind a few things that will go a long way in making it fulfilling.

Make sure you define your dream. It should be something you clearly love doing and immerse yourself in without noticing the passage of time. It should be something that you look forward to every day. In short, you have to find the right track into which you can channel your best value to the world while being happy.

Don’t pick something that looks, feels or sounds nice. Or do something just for the sake of doing it. Try out whatever you want to do for some time to see if it is what you want to do for the rest of your life. This might pay considerably less but it is something that you enjoy doing. Do it consistently to hone your skill in that particular area. It is only when you are good that it actually starts paying off. Often the lack of time prevents us from pursuing our dreams. Make time for your dream. Cut down on things that are frivolous and do not bring you any real joy. Use the time and energy thus saved to do things that you are passionate about. An easy way to do this is to start the day doing what you enjoy so that even if the rest of the day is spent doing things you don’t much care for, there is a sense of satisfaction in having done something you really care about.

Human beings are funny old things, aren’t they? And it makes it a whole lot harder to understand them when you are a human being yourself! Take charity for instance… What exactly is the overall attitude to this? Are the majority of us stingy? Or do most of us like to give? Well, I like to think that it’s the latter. After all, there have been so many impressive totals to consider from national fundraising events. However, some of us are much more generous than others. And that is a fact!

But much of our generosity will depend on how well-off we are ourselves. I mean, think about it; very few of us will give so much to charity that we leave insufficient funds for our own grocery bill… Although, the crazy part of it all is this; on the whole (and there are always exceptions of course), it is the poorest people who give the most to charitable causes. This may sound strange, but it also happens to be true! However, this doesn’t mean that every multi-millionaire will keep his (or her) riches hidden away in bomb-resistant, lead-lined, anti-nuclear lockers. No, there are actually a lot of very generous rich people out there too.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Donating funds to charitable organizations has more gain than what we can see. By carrying out this human act, you can be really nice to the people who are not as fortunate as you are. It offers a huge satisfaction to be able to help some people in making their everyday life better. Rather than just going mindlessly about earning money, buying clothes and spending half of your life in changing room benches, donating capital to charitable organizations offers a great way of being a responsible citizen. It is often quite appealing to donate money to the poor people out on the roads. But it makes more sense in donating money to a reputed charitable organization that can use this money in making the life of these people better in an organized way.

Donating money to a reputed charitable organization has many other benefits. You get tax discounts on money you donate to any charitable organization. The larger the sum of money you are donating, higher your taxes discounts are.

While donating money to a charitable organization, you should choose the organization by keeping in mind the purpose that you want to assist. For example, weather you want the money to go for women welfare or for helping the environment. There are also many organizations that help disabled and orphans. There is countless number of charitable organizations, and that is why it is crucial to cut down your options to the best few.

One way to make your choice is to determine what bothers you the most. If you want to help youngsters in getting a better life, you should donate funds to an organization that support education of kids and youngsters. And, if you are crazy about conserving wildlife, donate funds to charitable organizations that have emphasis on wild life.

helps others to get benefited by your skills, it also enhances your own skill levels. It increases a sense of mutual belongingness between two human beings. This feeling of mutual belongingness goes beyond the levels of professionalism and extends to building certain bonds that have their foundations in human values like, trust, respect and benevolence. Besides, almost everyone gets an opportunity to teach others something at some point in their lives.

This is why it’s quite crucial to become a good teacher. Here are following characteristics that a great teacher possesses:

Being a great teacher requires you to be available for your students as per your schedule. Teaching is different from many other professions where you take unplanned leaves without caring much about the monetary gains of your employer. In case of teaching, it’s not the monetary gains that are important; it’s more about being there when your students need you.

Also, you need to know your students personally as well. This is quite important because every student (indeed, every individual) has certain unique personality traits which may impact the learning speeds and learning patterns. For being successful as a teacher you should consider these aspects of your students'personalities. In addition, a personal attention given to students increases the level of trust between you and your students which will improve your communication with your students.

Fairness and maintaining your calm are two other most important qualities that will ensure that you are genuinely respected by your students. If you are unfair with few of your students, chances are you will become a villain in their view. This is a harsh reality of being a teacher. In addition, in case you have few cranky students in your classes, it will work in your favour if you always keep your calm and think of ways to improve them instead of losing your temper and hamper your communication with them. It is indeed must to consider the human behavioural aspect of their personalities; your students are not like some coat hooks wall mounted which can be easily replaced at your wish. They need to be treated with love, respect and a great patience.

Getting young people involved with charity work and aid projects is a very important thing in my opinion, and I think that it is our responsibility to try and ingrain an ethic of compassion and helpfulness in all of our youngsters, as they are the ones that will be in control of the future. Many people that get involved in this kind of work early on really enjoy it and often then follow through with things when they are older.

Some things that are a good idea to try and get children involved in the idea of helping others and giving, is to organize aid box days in school. This is where the children collect a box of things from their home that they want to donate, and bring it into school. The school then arranges for a charity to take all of the boxes away and donate them to other children that are in need. When children are a bit older, there are more projects and ideas that they can get involved with, and getting them to take as much responsibility for organizing these as possible is always a good thing.

Another aspect to this type of giving, and charity work, is getting children to realize the importance of looking after the environment and caring for he world, as well as the people. Getting them involved with green projects, and recycling projects is a good way to try and bring them up with a better notion of what is right and wrong, and what things are most important in life. Teaching them about buying fair trade products, and eco products is also a good idea. Companies such as Enigin Scam Busters are the product of a group of people who care about such things, and want to try and promote green companies and expose those that are just trying to make money out of people wishing to buy green products.

Donating your money, time and sharing your love is something that has been growing in popularity, and thank God for that. According to the 2011 CAF Donation Calendar the world has become more generous and more compassionate. The percentage of people who are willing to donate to a stranger or a particular organisation has increased by 2%, and 1% more people do voluntary work. The research also shows that the people from the US are those who give the most; this is probably as a result of the many philanthropists like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, who we will talk about later on. The second place goes to Ireland, and Australia takes the third.

The World Donor Index uses data and information from 153 countries, which covers 95% of the population of the Earth. The index measure three different aspects of charity: donating money, donating time (volunteering), and helping a stranger. For 2011 the only index that has experienced a decrease is the amount of money raised for charity. But this is not that surprising, considering the current economic climate. But I wanted to talk a bit about Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, those two billionaires are probably the most giving people on the planet. Bill Gates the man who has managed to bring equality to the world by taking form those who have, in this case those who have sufficient funds to buy personal computers, and he gives it to the poorest. His big heart has helped millions of kids. His “The Giving Pledge” Foundation has been providing almost everything you can imagine to those in need: from access to fresh water, three meals a day, clothing, electricity, computers, desks and storage lockers for schools and community centres and what not. He has even decided to donate most of his wealth to charity rather than simply leaving it to his family. Last year, he donated more than 6 billion dollars and managed to persuade many other billionaires to give some of their money away too.

Charity begins at home or so goes the famous adage. There seems to be a sense of nobility in doing something that helps others. To add to the sense of nobility, you often hear of Ivy League grads or top honchos from a leading company chucking it all up to spend their life doing charitable work as they find it more fulfilling. I greatly respect and admire such a noble decision. Setting aside the love for lucre and opting to live a life with the less underprivileged takes a certain amount of dare and conviction that may be found lacking in most people.

The flip side of the coin is what rankles me no end. There are many con artists out there who are more than happy to present a sorry picture to reap the benefits they can squeeze out of such admirable people. I have seen for myself how people present a very different picture from actual reality to avail of benefits offered to the needy. I have read reports of people who would put an Oscar winner to shame with the intensity of their performance about their suffering. I have read articles of people from well to do families addicted to begging – they travel to their chosen location, change into their ‘work clothes'and beg! It’s a profession for them. They most likely have storage lockers stuffed with wads of cash. And it’s tax free too! All these people manage to get money preying on the charitable streak in their victims.

It is very important to be discerning while embarking on the charitable road. I feel that segregating the needy from the fake ones is half the job done. That way the help and sacrifice of well-meaning souls will reach the right people. Sounds simple, but it is equally simple for the con artist who sets out to fleece people in the guise of needing your help.
